Beosound Level

For those of us who still remember them, transistor radios were great. Portable and compact, you could place them anywhere you needed some good musical company. With Beosound Level for Bang & Olufsen, we wanted to evoke the exact same emotions and offer a similar level of freedom while taking the listening experience to a much higher level thanks to outstanding technology and craftsmanship.

We designed Beosound Level to excel in every listening scenario. Standing on its long edge, it will deliver a directed sound experience towards the user in front of it. Hanging on a wall, the speaker spreads its sound evenly out into the room – perfect for background music as you go about your day. Finally, when you really want your music to take center stage, placing the speaker flat in the middle of a room allows the tunes to flow in all directions. Of course, no placement is permanent (unless you want it that way).

The speaker design invites an active engagement with its user. It’s robust and durable, like a high-end tool, always ready to be used. Still, we succeeded in achieving a refined finish throughout. The aluminum frame that envelopes the speaker in a visually striking manner doubles as a protective pumper and convenient handle in one. No matter its placement, the speaker is easy to grab and move. The slim form factor further invites you to bring the speaker on the go.

Each user will find his own favorite ways to use the Beosound Level. That’s why we had to make it look right from every possible angle. The continuous aluminum frame, clean surfaces, and almost symmetrical shape mean that the product doesn’t have a clearly defined front and rear. Yet, the slightly tapered shape subtly guides you to the source of the sound. The combination of the frame and having a front that folds around the edges split the optical depth in two, making the object appear lighter than its volume would suggest. The design also allows for playful combinations of different frame surfaces and speaker fronts in fabric, wood, or aluminum with various hole patterns.

Even a tedious interaction like charging is a joy with Beosound Level. The wall mount simply doubles as a charger that easily clicks to the speaker with magnetic plugs as you place it in its cradle – ready for its next performance.
