Absolute Cycling The One

Born from a desire to redefine the cycling experience, Absolute Cycling emerged as a pioneer in the cycling technology space. Their mission is clear: to enhance every cyclist’s experience by creating the most user-friendly, accurate, and distraction-free cycling computer.

Absolute Cycling knew of several of our iconic designs in the past and thought our approach to design was a great match with their overall philosophy and their wishes for an iconic product with a clear and strong visual appearance.

They asked us to design ‘the One’, a bicycle computer easy and simple to use during bicycle practise and exercise. For us it was an exciting opportunity to combine the sports worlds focus on performance with our ideas about iconic, essential design.

We decided early in the development process to use extruded aluminium as the main material for the computer housing, as it is strong, light weight and durable. Furthermore, aluminium is used extensively for performance bicycle parts and therefore felt just right for a premium bicycle computer.

The One has a large hi-res screen mounted in the precisely machined aluminium extrusion. Instead of a touchscreen, physical buttons were chosen for their tactile feedback and ease of use while riding the bike. The aluminium extrusion has an angled cut in the bottom that provides room for 3 buttons. These are all that is needed to control the device during a ride. Before and after each ride, the user can link with a smartphone for more extensive use.

The One is available with different bespoke mounting brackets for different bicycles cockpits. All brackets are designed to integrate beautifully with ‘the One’ to look absolutely stunning on any performance bicycle. Dynamic, floating in the air.

Even the charger is something special; instead of the usual OEM charger with a wire, the One has a small plinth to rest on when charging. A premium design object on display.
